Fakie Magazine is a one off magazine. This magazine was used as a way for me to come up with interesting type layouts as well as exciting imagery. I chose to do this topic because of my heavy interest in skateboarding and alternative culture.
Cover and TOC
The title treatment for my masthead features a backwards "k" because in the skateboarding world fakie means to go backwards. It is a simple yet effective way to create a memorable title. My TOC is very direct. I wanted to feature the articles within the magazine but give it a slight DIY feel that comes with the world of skateboarding.
Viva La Bam
This spread sets the stage for the design of the magazine. Large imagery with pulled quotes is a consistent feature within Fakie. I also thought it was important to feature the legendary Bam Margera in a book about skateboarding.
Get Creative
This spread is another article about the creativity of skateboarding. The image featured on this spread is from a video I took of a very close friend of mine. I did some simple editing for visual interest.
The Halloween Hellbomb
The Hellbomb is a personal favorite event of mine. This event is essentially people launching themselves over obstacles in their Halloween costumes. The image I chose is very iconic and comes from the event back in 2019. I chose to add a qr code to the article as a way to see the full video on Thrasher's YouTube video almost as a way to combine print in video media.
